The Ban on Social Media in Schools
As you all know, at BHS, we have access to virtually all of social media sites including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Vine, etc. For this week’s post, your task is to write a post to Principal Tony Orsini, and the other principals in schools throughout the country who ban social media, and explain to him the educational benefits of allowing students, even middle school students, to access social media sites (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) in school. Provide as many concrete examples as possible to convince Mr. Orsini that social media does not have to be banned in schools. To help you write a convincing argument, I’ve also included the BHS Apple video which features Mr. Larkin and his perspective on how technology, including social media, can enhance student learning. Be sure to include examples of how you use social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. in your classes and how it allows you to stay connected with your teachers and classmates. Who knows, maybe your post will change Principal Orsini’s mind!
