Relationships. That’s what living in today’s connected, flat society is really all about. And now, because of technology, we can now make connections with people from all parts the world. When leveraged properly, technology can be used not only to make an initial connection, but to develop a positive and productive professional or personal relationship.
In the word cloud above, the three words that stand out the most are DIGITAL, LITERACY, AND RELATIONSHIPS. Throughout this semester we are going to learn a lot about technology. We will learn about all kinds of current iPad applications and Web 2.0 tools. We will get to explore, discover, experiment and create a wide variety of digital products. But at the end of the semester, what I really hope you walk away with is a better and deeper understanding that being a digital citizen is about having the knowledge and ability to use technology to form relationships. I am excited to help coach you through the various digital tools we will use this year, but I’m even more excited to develop a relationship with you as your teacher. Having an impact on the lives of my students and staying updated on their successes after they’ve graduated is really the best part of being a teacher. I know that 2013 will be the best year of my teaching career thus far (it marks my 13th year as an educator, so 13 is definitely my lucky number!) and I hope that it will be the best year for you as well!
